Granby
On April 9th Ali and I returned to New York from our Alabama trip with Grandma in tow. I had been trying to talk her in to coming and visiting us in New York for a long time. Now I don’t want you to get the wrong impression my Grandma loves me, it’s just that she is really scared of flying, and thus the reason she had been reluctant to visit. I’m not sure what changed, but she decided she’d give it a try as long as she didn’t have to do it by herself. Accordingly, Ali and I hatched a plan to bring her to New York with us when we returned from our Alabama trip.
She stayed with us for four weeks, and I can’t tell you how much it meant to me to have her around. The first weekend we took her to Belleayre Mountain to go skiing. She didn’t actually ski, but being the middle of April she was able to sit out on the deck at the lodge and try and watch for us to come down. Afterwards we had lunch at Harry and Anita’s.
The next weekend we took her into the City. We drove to Middletown and took the train into Penn Station. We walked all the way up Broadway (through Times Square) to get to our hotel. Late that afternoon, we went out to dinner; walked through Central Park; and relaxed in a book store before returning to the Hotel. The next day we took a cab to the Museum of Natural History and by the time we got done there we were pretty much ready to head home.
The following weekend we did a day trip over to Cooperstown, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame. It was a rainy day so we didn’t spend as much time there as we might have otherwise. On the way home we stopped off in Oneonta for ice cream. While we were there we decided to see The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and to my utter surprise we discovered the crappy mall theatre actually has stadium seating for one of its screens.
The next weekend I took Granny home.
We had a great time while she was here. I really hope we can do it again at some point.
