Slip Slidin’ Away

I’ve recently built a home recording studio consisting of

A mostly quiet PC (the fans could still use some tweaking)
Firepod — A Firewire audio input device
Adobe Auditions — A 128 track audio editing software package

For my first outing with it, I decided to record Paul Simon’s Slip Slidin’ Away.

Feel free to give it a listen.

David, just because all your impressions sound like Duddly Moore, doesn’t mean mine do : )

Tried downloading, but my computer told me it would take over an hour. Guess it’s time to say good-bye to dial-up. We’ll download later. Paul is a dude from my era, man!

Very nice! What did you use for the drums?

  8. Jamie says:

The Auditions software comes with a lot (1,800) royalty free loops. I used one of them for the drum track.
There is also a shaker track to help provide a more authentic rhythm feel.

Good work. Hope you post more when you do them. How long’d that take anyway? Or another way, how long would it take you to do again know that you know what the knobs do =)

Thanks, I actually think it would take the same amount of time. I spent most of the time trying to perfect the tracks (read vocals) more than anything else.
Assuming I could get the tracks right in a few takes, it would probably take a few hours total recording time.
Of course, there is the whole getting familiar with the song and writing parts for it (like the solo). That is a whole ‘nother matter and for me at least is something that evolves over time.

Great song, but the video – UNBELIEVABLE! It was pretty cool. Song sounded good. Now are you ready to sign that contract?
