In a moment

I was out for a ride today when I found myself inexplicably in a moment.

First off let me set this up a bit. Everyone is familiar with dandelions right? Okay now after they flower yellow, they have all these spores or seeds or whatever — you know make a wish, then try to blow all of them off of the flower to make your wish come true. I realize I’m using the word flower a bit liberally here, but I’m still fond of these things from my childhood.

Okay so imagine completely intact non-corporeal dandelion spores just floating in the air. I’m not talking about a couple; I’m talking about a sea of them.

I’m riding my bike up hill; I’m peddling fairly hard, but barely moving; a whole sea of non-corporeal dandelion spores are floating around me. … Read More »

San Francisco

Ali and I went to San Francisco back in the middle of March. I have been slow to get the pictures posted because I wasn’t sure if I was going to write anything up to go with them. Recently, someone has suggested bodily harm in order to get me off my duff and put the pictures up. So without further delay …

“Gie”

I just returned from the funeral, and I was going through my mail. There were several sympathy cards, and the usual junk. There in the middle was a letter from her.

Just a month before I had turned 19; I went to Fiddler’s. It was the third time and was quickly becoming a tradition. My parents came too (their first time); it was a nice treat to get to see them on my birthday. I didn’t know it then, but that would be the last time I’d ever see her.

The night before Halloween we talked on the phone, it was something we did most days. She told me about this party she was going to with Keith. I don’t remember what she was planning to wear, but she always did well with her costumes. … Read More »

J-Dog NYC

Arriving by train, we got on at the end of the line in Poughkeepsie, and took it to the other end. It was about 10:30 when we disembarked at Grand Central Station. It was the first off-peak train that morning and it wasn’t particularly crowded.

Jeromy commented that people don’t make eye contact. I said, “It’s something I’ve noticed too.” “Well, people like to keep to themselves,” commented Ali, “it’s rare for someone to meet your gaze. I don’t think people are being unfriendly; it’s more of a protection mechanism.”

We didn’t have an agenda for this trip; we just thought it would be fun to walk around. Ali said, “What do you guys think about heading over to Rockefeller Center? I thought it might be fun to ice skate. And we could always … Read More »

J-Dog

My brother finally came to visit late last month. It was a quick trip; he got in late Wednesday night and left Sunday afternoon. Thursday we just hung out around the house, and did some chores, like stacking firewood.

Friday was Ali’s birthday; Ali and I took the day off and we all went to The City. We went to the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center (it was our first time doing this). There is an amazing view of Manhattan, but in particular of Central Park. I want to go back in the summer and fall with a good camera to try to get some good shots of the park.

Saturday we went skiing at Belleayre Mountain which is about 5 minutes from Ali’s Mom & Dad’s house.

Sunday we went over to the PT clinic … Read More »
