Hiking
Ali and I went hiking at Bellearye yesterday. We went up Dot Nebel which is a black diamond ski trail. There is only one section that is particularly steep so it wasn’t too bad a climb. As we were wondering around the mountain we came across a patch of snow that hasn’t melted yet. It was probably 50 feet long and 30 feet wide.
Not much else going on, I hope all of you are doing well.

You know, since I’ve been keeping a house hunting blog I’m finding I’m all blogged out when it comes time to write my weekly blog entry.
Ali and I are going to be taking a trip to Alabama towards the end of June. I can’t wait.

How porcupines are like opossums
Did any of you ever see the cartoon where porcupines are getting killed left and right trying to cross the road? One of them finally gets the bright idea to dress like a human and go to the Clerk’s office where he petitions to get a porcupine crossing installed to keep his brethren from being run over. Well that is at least how I remember it all these years later.
I never understood the cartoon, probably because you don’t see porcupines dead on the side of the road in the South (at least I never have). What I did see in abundance were opossums dead on the side of the road. For me that cartoon would have made a lot more sense if opossums had been substituted for porcupines, that is until now. I have been … Read More »
Leesburg, VA
Well I’m in Leesburg, VA — Hi Jeff and Stacy. On Friday, I found out I got a seat in a seminar I signed up for few weeks ago. I didn’t make the decision to come until Monday afternoon. I’m only here for a couple of days, and I have a pretty tight schedule otherwise, I would have tried to get in touch with Jeff and Stacy — my loss :( I really wish I could stay Friday and check everything out since I’ve never been to DC before, but that will have to wait for another trip.
I’m actually spending my days in Herndon; there were no hotel rooms available on such short notice there, so I’m staying 30 minutes away in Leesburg. It worked out pretty good because I came in on I81, which … Read More »

I sort of consider Tuesday to be my weekly dead-line for posting to Struggling With Lucidity. Of course, I can be early, but if inspiration hasn’t struck me, then I’ve been forcing myself to write an entry when Tuesday rolls around. Obviously today is no exception, except that I had two topics to discuss only I’ve completely forgotten what one of them was, and the other is still fermenting.
The bear was back this morning, and I got to see it. The bird feeder got left out again which prompted his return. Ali saw him while he was standing on his back legs to get at the feeder, and she came and woke me up so I could see. He had already begun his retreat by the time I got to the window, and there was … Read More »
Whipping Post
Here is the little bit of Whipping Post Dreams that I recorded of David’s band playing. Enjoy.
Lions, Tigers, and Bears
Okay so any hope I had of convincing Ali to camp out in the in-laws backyard has vanished. We keep a bird feeder on the back porch hanging from a 4×4 thingy. Usually it is brought in at night, but with winter that rule was not strictly adhered to. With spring approaching it probably should have been; some time in the middle of the night a bear came and ripped it down to get to the bird seed in the feeder hanging from it. Before and after. Now I know the broken piece of wood doesn’t look like a 4×4, but it was cut out to fit over the built in bench on the porch.
The cake I made for my mother in-law’s birthday turned out pretty good. The icing was a little thicker than I … Read More »
David’s Party
Ali and I went down to Winston-Salem this past weekend for David’s 30th Birthday party. We had an ominous warning not to go when Ali had a semi-blowout earlier in the day while coming home from Walton. We persevered and made arrangements to get a new tire at Sears, which is a little over an hour away. Driving on the donuts for that long is not a lot of fun. This was on Thursday in case you were wondering. We got out of Kingston about 7pm that night and drove until about 1:30am stopping in Woodstock, VA for the night. Driving that night wasn’t much fun as it rained a lot and there was a lot of traffic. At some point near the end of drive that night, one of the windshield wipers … Read More »
New Blogs
I’ve been busy …
I have started two new blogs, one for house hunting, and one for cycling. I added a new side bar section called “blogs” to make for easy navigation between them.
I will do my best to keep the house hunting one up to date as we go and view properties. I may not always have a lot of pictures, as usually the residence of the house are home while we are looking at it, and I find it awkward to take pictures of someone’s house while they are there.
So Damn Lucky
Recently I have been listening to Some Devil by Dave Matthews. There is a song on the album, which I like, but hadn’t taken the time to process the Lyrics. There was one line that reminded me of my wife and myself. She sometimes talks to me, and it could be minutes but eventually I’ll respond, and then she’ll have no idea what I’m talking about. Anyway that is irrelevant to the overall entry.
I’m going to start with the Lyrics to the song, which are mostly complete, there are two words near the end I have been unable to make out, and apparently no one else has either because they don’t show up on any of the lyrics sites out there.
“So Damn Lucky” (low quality mp3 to keep it small)
