The Flood Redux

[Phone rings]

Hello

Hi, it’s me [Ali]

Hi there.

Hey I’m starting to send people home; they have closed the village due to flooding.

Really, it’s flooding down there?

Yeah, Delaware St, North, Townsend … We are trying to move equipment in case the water comes into the clinic.

Do you need any help?

If you have time, yeah I could use some help; it’s just me and the building owner.

I’ll be down in a bit.

About 20 minutes later I start walking to the clinic. On my way I see a USGS truck driving around. I have to pick my way around; all the streets on that end of the village are flooded.

What should we do with the Pathfinder; we can’t get it home at this point?

We could park it over at the hospital.

Okay, I’ll go move it and walk back over here.

When I … Read More »

The flood

Just a quick note to say I’ve got the pictures posted from the flood that devasted Walton over the past couple of days. I plan to write more when I get a chance to digest everything that has happened.

**Update**
The The Daily Star has made available a photo album of pictures taken by people in several counties around our area. You can view it here. I also posted an additional album of select Walton photos from this site (plus some of I-88).

In a moment

I was out for a ride today when I found myself inexplicably in a moment.

First off let me set this up a bit. Everyone is familiar with dandelions right? Okay now after they flower yellow, they have all these spores or seeds or whatever — you know make a wish, then try to blow all of them off of the flower to make your wish come true. I realize I’m using the word flower a bit liberally here, but I’m still fond of these things from my childhood.

Okay so imagine completely intact non-corporeal dandelion spores just floating in the air. I’m not talking about a couple; I’m talking about a sea of them.

I’m riding my bike up hill; I’m peddling fairly hard, but barely moving; a whole sea of non-corporeal dandelion spores are floating around me. … Read More »

San Francisco

Ali and I went to San Francisco back in the middle of March. I have been slow to get the pictures posted because I wasn’t sure if I was going to write anything up to go with them. Recently, someone has suggested bodily harm in order to get me off my duff and put the pictures up. So without further delay …

“Gie”

I just returned from the funeral, and I was going through my mail. There were several sympathy cards, and the usual junk. There in the middle was a letter from her.

Just a month before I had turned 19; I went to Fiddler’s. It was the third time and was quickly becoming a tradition. My parents came too (their first time); it was a nice treat to get to see them on my birthday. I didn’t know it then, but that would be the last time I’d ever see her.

The night before Halloween we talked on the phone, it was something we did most days. She told me about this party she was going to with Keith. I don’t remember what she was planning to wear, but she always did well with her costumes. … Read More »

J-Dog NYC

Arriving by train, we got on at the end of the line in Poughkeepsie, and took it to the other end. It was about 10:30 when we disembarked at Grand Central Station. It was the first off-peak train that morning and it wasn’t particularly crowded.

Jeromy commented that people don’t make eye contact. I said, “It’s something I’ve noticed too.” “Well, people like to keep to themselves,” commented Ali, “it’s rare for someone to meet your gaze. I don’t think people are being unfriendly; it’s more of a protection mechanism.”

We didn’t have an agenda for this trip; we just thought it would be fun to walk around. Ali said, “What do you guys think about heading over to Rockefeller Center? I thought it might be fun to ice skate. And we could always … Read More »

J-Dog

My brother finally came to visit late last month. It was a quick trip; he got in late Wednesday night and left Sunday afternoon. Thursday we just hung out around the house, and did some chores, like stacking firewood.

Friday was Ali’s birthday; Ali and I took the day off and we all went to The City. We went to the Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center (it was our first time doing this). There is an amazing view of Manhattan, but in particular of Central Park. I want to go back in the summer and fall with a good camera to try to get some good shots of the park.

Saturday we went skiing at Belleayre Mountain which is about 5 minutes from Ali’s Mom & Dad’s house.

Sunday we went over to the PT clinic … Read More »

Urges

I’ve really had an urge to write lately, but somehow I keep squandering all of my free time (usually doing nothing).

Ali has recently started another class at UIndy, and now she is spending her evenings studying, so maybe that’ll be the catalyst I need to actually sit down and do something.

I realize my biggest problem is I’m lazy. Writing is not something I’m good at in the first place, which means it requires even more work than most things. It usually comes down to concerted effort just to produce something that I usually consider mediocre.

All of that is to say: I’m sorry for the lack of content, but I am just too lackadaisical to get over that hump. I am actively thinking about how I can get over, or around this impediment — I usually think … Read More »

Phychic Friends

Tonight I was wondering, “What ever happened to the Phychic Friends Network?” A quick google and I see they are still alive and kickin’.

And though I’m tempted I just don’t think I’m ready for the promised “truly enjoyable and enlightening experience”.

Oh, and in case you were wondering there were 3.9 millions hits on Google for the keywords “psychic friends”. Oops make that 3.9 million + 1, once this post gets indexed.
