Lions, Tigers, and Bears

Okay so any hope I had of convincing Ali to camp out in the in-laws backyard has vanished. We keep a bird feeder on the back porch hanging from a 4×4 thingy. Usually it is brought in at night, but with winter that rule was not strictly adhered to. With spring approaching it probably should have been; some time in the middle of the night a bear came and ripped it down to get to the bird seed in the feeder hanging from it. Before and after. Now I know the broken piece of wood doesn’t look like a 4×4, but it was cut out to fit over the built in bench on the porch.

The cake I made for my mother in-law’s birthday turned out pretty good. The icing was a little thicker than I … Read More »

David’s Party

Ali and I went down to Winston-Salem this past weekend for David’s 30th Birthday party. We had an ominous warning not to go when Ali had a semi-blowout earlier in the day while coming home from Walton. We persevered and made arrangements to get a new tire at Sears, which is a little over an hour away. Driving on the donuts for that long is not a lot of fun. This was on Thursday in case you were wondering. We got out of Kingston about 7pm that night and drove until about 1:30am stopping in Woodstock, VA for the night. Driving that night wasn’t much fun as it rained a lot and there was a lot of traffic. At some point near the end of drive that night, one of the windshield wipers … Read More »

Killington Ski Trip

We left for Killington a little after 1pm on Sunday. I was a little excited as this was my first time going there, especially since Ali has always talked highly of this particular mountain. It was about a four hour drive from our house, and it was pretty uneventful being a Sunday afternoon and all. Harry got us a free condo sans sheets and towels. We later learned that the cleaning company does not provide these things for non-paying visitors. Apparently, the guy who lent it to us, rents it out during the season. Anyway, had we known this we could have brought our own, but I don’t think this was a clear point for any of the involved parties (including the cleaning/renting agency). They did end up bringing us sheets and towels Sunday evening, and all was well on … Read More »

The Producers

Ali and I went to The City yesterday to see The Producers on Broadway. Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick have reprised their roles for a short time, and we were lucky enough to get tickets.

Ah, but I’m getting a head of myself …

This was our second time going to The City since we moved to New York last June. The first time we went was Thanksgiving weekend to meet Adam, who was in from Portland, Oregon. I’m not sure why we haven’t gone more as it only takes us about 3.5 hours with about 2 hours of that on a train. Needless to say for us to get to The City it is a piece of cake; contrasted with what Ashley went through to get there you might even think it boring.

One thing to offset the … Read More »
